For six generations our family has lived off the Texas landscape. Our forefathers and foremothers planted cotton and corn, and we grow grapes. In 1995, Larry and Jeanine Kuhlken planted their first rows of vines in the Texas Hill Country. They picked the site specifically for its soils of caliche and rich red sandstone, located within the oldest AVA (American Viticultural Area) in Texas, Bell Mountain AVA. We continue to farm these soils sustainably in order to pass them on as a legacy to the seventh generation. In 2006, Larry and Jeanine’s children Julie and David as well as their spouses Fredrik and Heather founded Pedernales Cellars. After a decade of grape-growing experience, the decision was made to specialize in wines crafted from varieties native to Spain and the Rhone. In particular, Pedernales Cellars has devoted itself to creating benchmark Texas Tempranillo and Viognier, and has been rewarded for its efforts with Gold and Double Gold medals in national and international wine competitions including Lyon, France. When you visit our winery in Stonewall, just 15 miles east of Fredericksburg, our well-educated staff will lead you through a tasting designed to cultivate your appreciation for Texas wine. On our deck you can sip a glass, listen to live music, and enjoy breathtaking views of the Pedernales River valley.
“Join us for an afternoon of the good life at your home away from home in the Texas Hill Country!”
